the menu looked interesting, but eating itself was definitiw style over substance imaginative looking plates with many excess garnishes (including a nasturtium flower that was crooked with insects) but the basic ingredients were spiced and cooked over. the service was slow and the waiter unapologetic to say the least. I got a free drink in a dirty glass (with lipstick marks around the rim), but at this point we were thrilled to leave so I just left it on the table. to lift everything from my partner, slipped on oil that had been spit on the floor when we walked and fell by. no employee even bothered to acknowledge the accident, let alone offer any kind of excuse. we really have a dinner in a nearby hotel, which is run by the same company, and were left extremely disappointed by our experience in lapas bay tonight. I understand that accidents and errors can happen, but there is no excuse for this type of bad service and lack of customer support, especially in this price letter.

We visited Porto Moniz during a West tour of the island starting from Funchal. We had worked out that it was cheaper to have a lunch on the tour than have one locally in the evening in Funchal. There was nothing wrong with the meal,...and there was plenty of it including wine and beverages. To be honest it was good value. If you are looking for Haute Cuisine, then look elsewhere

First of all the location of the restaurant is amazing, you can beat that. The restaurant was furnished nicely. The food and service was medium. They were too much in a rush and missed some orders. The fish was ok, but the coffee at the end one of the worst I ever had in Portugal, especially when you know the Portuguese love their coffee.
